Nov 16 @ 3 p.m.  A representative from UNC will be in the school to visit with seniors.

Nov. 24 @ 1p.m.  All sophomores will be taking the ASVAB test.  The results of this test do a very good job of helping students see civilian as well as military jobs that match their aptitudes and interests.  Any junior or senior may also take the test that day as well.

Sophomores took the PLAN test on October 13, 2009.  This test gives students an idea of what to expect from the ACT.  It also translates their current score into a predicted score on the ACT.  The sophomore year is a great time to figure out if the student is on track for what they want their score to be on the ACT.  If their predicted ACT score is lower than they desire, then there is still time to pay attention to those weak subject areas before taking the ACT.

Juniors took the PSAT test on October 21st.  It is a practice exam for the SAT and gives the junior insight into what subjects they need to focus on in order to get a score on the SAT that they desire.

FCCLA

It has been a crazy busy beginning of the school year!  Our membership drive netted 25 members for the FCCLA chapter this year.  Of those, we welcomed nine first year members.

We got right to work with our annual Fajita Dinner served at the McClave-Walsh football game.  It was a gorgeous fall evening with perfect weather for a game and our dinner.  We estimate that we served 160 fans from McClave and Walsh.  Thank you for supporting our members in their fund-raising efforts.  Funds earned go towards paying individual member dues, attending conferences, and purchasing chapter shirts as well as funding our local projects.

On Sat., Oct. 26th , members enjoyed a skating party to kick off the new school year.

October 4th & 5th saw two members and Mrs. Larrick travel to Vail, Colorado for a Leadership Training Conference.  Colby Canfield, Arkansas Valley District Vice President, and Anna Kuhns, McClave Chapter Vice President, attended the sessions designed to help students identify their own leadership strengths and learn how to use them effectively.  It was a very entertaining as well as enlightening conference.

On October 7th, eighteen members attended the District Leadership Conference held in Lamar.  Colby lead a workshop on how to plan and present workshops.  Members attended three workshop sessions dealing with leadership and FCCLA programs.  After lunch, our chapter held a brief chapter meeting before returning to the school.

As this goes to press, our chapter members are in the middle of completing plans for activities during the last week of October.

Community Blood Drive on October 26th,

All School Pumpkin Carving Contest October 28th

Treat Street on October 28th in conjunction with the FFA Carnival

Junior High and High School Costume Contest on October 29th

October was a busy month.  November will be not quite as hectic.  Six members will be traveling to Washington, D.C. to attend the Regional Cluster Meeting.  Alisha Pettitt, Whitney Reeder, Jeanne Schmelzer, Desirae Owens, Jessica Chavira, and Heather Garza have been working steadily through various fund-raising activities to earn their money to attend.  We are anxious to attend the conference as there are nationally known presenters and speakers.  And of course, we are really excited about visiting the nation’s capital.
